Practical support for members and landholders across our groups.
South West Goulburn Landcare Network is local people looking after the country between Kilmore, Broadford and Seymour, out through Tallarook, Pyalong and Avenel. Some members farm for a living. Others have a few acres, a dam and a gorse problem. Our job is to make the work easier to get done, and to put you in touch with the neighbours already doing it.
Below is what the network takes on across its two groups, Glenaroua Land Management Group and Dabyminga Landcare. Most of it happens outdoors: planting days, weed programs, nest boxes and rabbit work. If something here would help on your place, or you are not sure where to start, talk to the facilitator.

Re-vegetation
Putting the right plants back in the landscape brings shelter, shade and habitat, and helps hold soil and water where you want it. We can help you plan revegetation for your place, from shelterbelts and paddock trees to fencing and planting along creeks and gullies, and we run community planting days through the cooler months. The network also helps members source local native tubestock so you are planting species suited to our area. Talk to the facilitator about what you have in mind and the best time of year to get started.
Weed control
Coordinated weed programs, spray days, and a herbicide rebate for members.
Weeds are easier to tackle together, so we help members plan and coordinate control across neighbouring properties and along shared waterways. That can mean group spray days, advice on identifying and prioritising the weeds that matter most in our part of central Victoria, and pooling effort so gains on one place are not undone next door. Members may also be able to access herbicide support through the network. Get in touch with the facilitator to find out what is running near you and how to take part.
Nesting boxes
Nest boxes for hollow-dependent wildlife on member properties.
Many local birds, possums and gliders depend on tree hollows that can take a century or more to form, and these are often in short supply. Nest boxes give hollow-dependent wildlife somewhere to shelter and breed while older trees regrow. We help members put up boxes suited to the species on their properties and, where we can, keep an eye on how they are used over time. If you would like to add nest boxes on your place, or join in when boxes are being built or installed, get in touch with the facilitator.
Feral animal control
Rabbit programs, fox control coordination, monitoring support.
Foxes, rabbits and other feral animals put pressure on native wildlife, pasture and revegetation, and they move freely across boundaries, so a coordinated approach works best. The network helps members plan and align control efforts with their neighbours, share information, and take part in group programs when they are running. To register your interest or find out what is happening in your area, get in touch with the facilitator.
Public events
Bird talks and walks, weed identification sessions, field days and farm walks.
Want any of these on your place? Get in touch, or ask at your local group’s next meeting.
